Motorola has launched the i880, the first 2.0 megapixel camera phone available on nextel network.

The 2.0 megapixel camera/camcorder provides picture resolution sharp enough for quality 5×7 prints and lifelike video playback with sound. The i880 also includes an integrated music player that can play MP3s, audio files and audio podcasts, through front dual-ported speakers in stereo sound.

Multimedia files can be stored on the included 64 MB microSD(TM) removable memory card. Audio podcasts are stored on an optional memory card. Optional memory card reader and podcatcher software is required for saving to the memory card.

The product includes a number of walkie-talkie options. Nextel’s Nationwide Walkie-Talkie and International Walkie-Talkie services allow country-to-country communication. The Group Connect service enables group walkie-talkie conversations with up to 21 participants nationwide.

The Direct Talk(SM) service allows short-range walkie-talkie communications in areas without network coverage. Direct Send(SM) allows users to send contact information and pictures to another Direct Send-capable phone.

Other features of the i880 include pre-installed and downloadable Java(R) applications, GPS capabilities, Internet microbrowser, custom ring tone ID and picture caller ID, a 262K internal colour screen, voice dialling, voice recorder, speakerphone, datebook and 600-entry contacts list.

The phone has antimicrobial coating to help protect its painted surfaces from damaging bacteria.
