Samsung Launches BlackJack Smart Phone

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd is launching the BlackJack smart phone at Cingular Wireless L.L.C. It will retail at $200, after a $100 mail-in rebate, with a two-year contract.

The Samsung Blackjack is an ultra-thin lightweight QWERTY, which will compete with devices such as the Motorola Inc. Q and the Nokia Corp. E62.

The phone runs on Microsoft Corp. Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system with pocket versions of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Internet Explorer Mobile to surf the Web. It offers W-CDMA support, an integrated MP3 player with access to the Cingular Music service, a 1.3 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth connectivity and e-mail options that include Good Mobile Messaging, Microsoft Outlook Mobile and Cingular Xpress Mail.

According to Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer at Microsoft, the BlackJack is “the bridge between work and play”.
