Nuance Communications, Inc., a supplier of speech and imaging solutions, has secured a contract to supply speech technology to Pantech Group, the second largest mobile phone company in South Korea and the seventh largest handset manufacturer in the world.
Nuance Communications’ speech solutions will power Pantech’s PG-6200, PG-8000 and PG-3700 handsets in multiple languages, including Russian, English and Mandarin Chinese. The products are already available in the Russian and Taiwanese markets.
Pantech’s new GSM models feature advanced camera and multimedia functionality. They include RealSpeak™ Mobile SF from Nuance, a text-to-speech engine which converts text into synthesized speech. RealSpeak Mobile delivers text-to-speech readout of SMS and email messages in over 20 languages.
Nuance Communications’ products are used by over 30 manufacturers worldwide in over 50 million devices, including cellular phones, smart phones and PDAs. Its customers include LG Electronics, Motorola, NEC, Analog Devices, Agere Systems, Hitachi, Intel, Mitsubishi Electric, Samsung, Panasonic, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments.
