Couch Potatoes Crave HDTV Sports
by Kathryn Lang
It is not enough just to sit and watch sporting events on television. Consumers today want more out of their viewing time. Consumers today want to experience the sporting events through high definition TV (HDTV) on large screen sets.
The combination of the large screens and the crisp, life like quality of the pictures actual bring the action into the homes of viewers. Many of these home viewers say they would rather watch on HDTV than to actually attend the events live. Who can blame them? Home viewing gives the consumers climate control, free snacks, multiple views of the action, instant replays, and there is no line at the bathroom.
The HDTV industry has found that major sporting events, such as the up coming Super Bowl or the NBA playoffs, will actually spur the sales of HDTV sets. In a recent study, it was found that around 60 percent of owners were sports fans, and of that percentage another 41 percents preferred watching on HDTV to being live.
Many in the industry are focused on the new and trendy, especially during the International Consumer Electronics Show that is currently going on in Las Vegas, Nevada. They would be wise to focus more on the old, reliable couch potatoes who are willing to purchase the products being made.
The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has been researching the purchases and uses of HDTV.
