Which HDTV Set To Choose

Is an HDTV set right for everyone?

The cost of the highly touted technology is steadily going down, but it is probably nearing its bottom line. Cost aside, can the technology really stand up to the hype? One look at the crisp quality of an HDTV picture and anyone can see that it does.

There is a large array of HDTV sets available on the market. The kind that a person chooses will depend on what will be viewed, how much can be spent, and the size of the screen that is needed.

LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) screens tend to be the least expensive of all the sets. It is still fairly thin, but it’s not as much of a value if the screen gets beyond 40 inches. There can also be problems with viewing at different angles and the brightness of the screen itself can dull down some colors.

The Plasma screen is extremely flat. It is the most expensive of the HDTV sets, but its picture is the clearest of all the sets. It is also prone to burn-in (when an image stays in one place too long and is permanently burned into the screen).

The Projector sets are the only sets for true BIG screen viewing. The rear sets are not as flat as even the LCD, and with the front sets the picture can easily be washed out by any kind of outside light (sun or artificial).

HDTV is vast, but well worth the journey.
