VOIP Helps to Develop the World
by Kathryn Lang
VOIP is aiding the growth of developing countries by providing an inexpensive communications line between companies in that country and consultants around the globe. Government run and regulated phone companies have hinder the expansion of development because of the cost they have placed on communications in order to ensure revenues.
ShoreCap Exchange, a non-profit organization that provides (and helps fund) technical assistance to micro credit institutions in developing countries, is utilizing VOIP technology to make international communication affordable. Conventional phones calls could run up the cost of assistance well beyond the means of the organization.
The utilization of Skype, a leading VOIP provider, allows consultants to make free Skype to Skype calls. It also makes calls to consultants in the United States relatively inexpensive. With the ability to communicate easily (and freely), consultants can limit the travel expenses needed to assist companies in their growth.
By saving money through the use of VOIP, ShoreCap Exchange will be able to fund more opportunities in more areas. Developing countries now have a way to break out beyond the scope that was limited by expensive communications.
VOIP continues to open doors for development through out the world. It will also continue to force traditional telephone companies to evaluate and lower their costs while pushing the scope of opportunities around the world.
