Motion-sensing game for camera phones announced

Concrete Software is releasing a new game, 3D Lawn Darts, which uses innovative motion sensing control technology.

The game replicates the Nintendo Wii motion controller on a mobile camera phone. It uses the phone’s internal camera to allow players to swing the phone as if they were throwing a real dart.

Players take turns throwing metal darts into the air and trying to land them inside one of two rings.

The phone’s camera captures a picture in mid-throw. It then analyses the blur in the picture to determine the motion of the dart. The phone vibrates to signal to the user when they should make the throwing motion.

3D Lawn Darts is currently only available on Pocket PCs and Microsoft Smartphones in the UK, but the company is in negotiations with UK mobile phone carriers and plans to release the mobile camera phone game in the near future.
