According to an article in the New York Times, Mitsubishi will exhibit the new ‘Laser HDTV’ at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, in January 2008.
The long-awaited Laser TV is expected to provide bright and deep images on large, thin and lightweight screens. The laser provides better colour quality because it can blend colours more precisely.
The use of the laser rather than a bulb or tube also improves energy efficiency.
Companies have been working to perfect the technology so that it can be mass produced and it seems from Mitsubishi’s CES exhibit that this might be coming closer.
Laser HDTV, when it is finally available, will provide a new category for the premium end of the HDTV market.
