OmniVision and Scalado collaborate on camera phones

OmniVision Technologies, the US-based image sensor company, and Scalado, the Swedish mobile imaging software specialist, are working together to make camera phones more user-friendly.

As part of the collaboration, OmniVision has added hardware to its new 3-megapixel OV3640 CameraChip, to optimise a camera’s ability to benefit from Scalado’s SpeedView technology.

This innovation allows pictures to be taken faster and also viewed faster on camera phones.

The OV3640 CameraChip is built on OmniVision’s newest OmniPixel3 architecture. It is the first sensor to be completely compatible with Scalado’s SpeedView technology.

SpeedView’s sensor features unique WYSIWYG Capturing technology which allows a user to capture exactly what is displayed in the camera’s viewfinder.

It also allows the captured image to be replayed instantly. The technology allows real-time viewing, zooming and panning of the captured images at, 10-20 images per second, in the phone’s image gallery. No additional hardware is needed.

The technology allows users to truly ‘capture the moment’, which is what camera phones are really all about.
