Microsoft is partnering with London-based web broadcaster, Skinkers, to develop a P2P-based IPTV platform called ‘Livestation‘ based on Microsoft’s Silverlight technology.
Silverlight is a new cross-browser, cross-platform technology which helps users design, develop, and deliver media-enabled experiences and rich interactive applications on the Internet.
The integration of Silverlight with ‘LiveStation’ broadcast technology, allows users to stream live television via a computer.
The cost-effective platform works without the need for a separate media streaming hub or installation of custom software.
Subscribers can view and change channels online simply by connecting to a remote server.
The launch of a private beta of “LiveStation” is imminent and a broader beta is scheduled for release October.
The final launch of the product is expected in the first half of 2008.
