Korea's SK Telecom considers IPTV

SK Telecom is at the moment Korea’s leading wireless operator. But not being happy with that they are also considering an early entry into the IPTV market.

But before they jump in feet first being the shrewd operators that they are, the company are going to set up a so called task force to look into and review IPTV. The team will be looking into the feasibility of the business itself, from this they will recommend the way to go forward, and if they do decide to move on this. They will also set out the direction and report their findings and results to the senior management of the company.

It is a little bit of a surprise that they have not ventured into this area of the business yet. They have kept back and obviously noticed how the IPTV is developing and have had to make a decision as to whether of not they will enter the market. It would appear that there is some sort of indecision here, but whatever their future plans are, they will need to either partner or merge with an internet service provider.

There are already some competition in the Korean market, these include: Hana TV, they are only a year old and already have some 540,000 subscribers, Korea Telecom run an HD programming service via Mega TV and finally LG Dacom who will be launching their service later on in the year, probably September time.
