According to new research by In-stat, the development of the high-definition TV market in China will be slow for the few years.
The report ‘HDTV in China: Devices Before Service’, covers the Chinese market for HDTV over the period to 2011.
It finds that Chinese HDTV companies in the service market are currently making only small investment and marketing efforts for HDTV, with the result that HDTV subscribers are expected to grow to just two million by 2011, producing revenue of $358 million.
According to Simon Sun, an analyst at In-Stat, content product is vital to the service market. Currently most HDTV content is produced by government-led initiatives, and the quantity of programming is small.
In-Stat expects HDTV set shipments to reach 19.7 million by 2011, and next-generation optical disc player shipments of 4.4 million units in 2011.
