BT Vision selects DS2 chips for IPTV service

Janet Harris

BT Vision has selected DS2 to supply Universal Powerline Association (UPA) chips to enable the self-installation option of its IPTV service.

DS2 is a leading supplier of UPA powerline products, which were selected by BT Vision because of their ability to process at a maximum gross speed of 200Mbps and provide high quality IPTV viewing capabilities.

The DS2 solution enables the design of powerline products which include a female socket, freeing up the customer’s power outlet for use with other devices.

It also provides a quick and easy one-touch set-up for HDTV-speed home networks, allowing the development of products which customers can easily install themselves, with no need for additional cables or for technical support.

DS2 is now moving towards the next stage of development of multimedia applications over Powerline, which will include embedding UPA powerline technology in the set-top box.

The Universal Powerline Association is an international body which creates specifications and compliance testing worldwide to ensure interoperability between products.
