Disney agrees Finnish VOD deal

Channel 4 Finland, also known as Nelonen, and Disney-ABC International Television have agreed a deal whereby US shows will be available on-demand to Finnish IPTV viewers days after their US TV broadcast.

This is the first time Disney has introduced multiple network series to an international market so soon after broadcast in the US.

Channel 4 Finland’s IPTV service will launch an area of its site called 'Hot from the US' which will allow fans to enjoy the latest seasons of hit US series 'Ugly Betty', 'Grey’s Anatomy', 'Lost', and 'Desperate Housewives' from four days after the US broadcast.

The episodes will be available from the end of September, the start of the US fall season, at a cost of €3 per episode.

The agreement is an opportunity for fans to legally access some of the most-anticipated shows on international TV, and demonstrates the commitment of Disney-ABC International to work with digital media partners to bring its content to viewers in faster, flexible ways, when and where they want it.

The episodes will follow the US broadcast pattern. The formula has seen other European broadcasters come unstuck when broadcasting shows close to the original transmission date when the US shows take a mid-season break for holidays or the coverage of an awards show.
