IPTV products from telecom equipment supplier, Anevia, have been deployed by Siemens Business Services to introduce an IPTV service for the BBC.
Siemens has installed Anevia solutions in BBC head offices in the UK, offering BBC staff contact with BBC and other channels output at their desktop and through IP set-top boxes.
The technology will enable the distribution of Arabic TV channels for the new World Service Arabic News channel, which will launch later this year.
Siemens has installed a scaleable and configurable Anevia IPTV solution as a standard component of the BBC desktop.
Anevia’s Flamingo series was selected for broadcast of satellite and DTT channels.
Flamingo is a cost-effective solution which maintains satellite video quality and streams it directly over IP, without encoding or transcoding.
Anevia’s Sunbird was selected for broadcast of internal channels from analog signals.
The system has already been successfully deployed in London and is being rolled out to BBC offices in Glasgow, Cardiff, Belfast and Birmingham.
Anevia uses an innovative software solution in its devices, which combines broadband and television, and enables the development of VOD servers and DVB to IP streaming servers which are compact, cost-effective and quick to deploy.
