Hitachi reveals hybrid LCD display
by Janet Harris

Hitachi has designed a prototype display with a contrast ration of 8 million to one.
The company combined a traditional LCD display with an LCD projector and multiplied their respective contrast ratios.
The technology allows the 47-inch LCD panel to render better gradation in dark scenes. It is targeted at a 30cm depth using a short focal-length projector model.
The display has a resolution of 1080p and the rear projector is a standard 720p type. The panel surface luminance is 700 cd/m2 when displaying white.
The company will demonstrate the new technology at CEATEC Japan this month, but there is no news on price and availability as yet.
