BT has selected the Jabbber platform to provide an instant messaging service for its 21st Century Network.
The 21st Century Project (21 CN) will replace the Public Switched Telephone Network with an IP based system. The project also involves the delivery of additional services such as on demand TV content, as well as mobile TV and radio.
As part of the deal Jabber will licence its software for BT consumers, government and enterprise users on a worldwide scale.
Jabber will also provide consultation and development services, which will allow for the full integration of Jabber into BT’s common capabilities network.
Integrating Jabber will BT to integrate Jabber’s instant messaging facilities across its range of applications and services, allowing it to reach it’s 21CN objectives.
The service will allow BT customers a centralised view of IM routing, one on one instant messaging and group chat sessions plus allow users to store and view a log of previous chat history.
The service will also allow some compatibility with other IM services such as Yahoo, MSN and Google.
