Palm delays release of Linux smartphone
Palm has delayed the distribution of its Linux-based smartphone until the end of 2008.

The phone was originally scheduled for release late this year, but was put back to 2008 in July, and a further delay has now been announced by Palm’s chief executive, Ed Colligan.

However, Colligan said that platform development was going well, and was within the company’s expectations.

The new software is targeted at consumers, rather than enterprises, who tend to buy Windows powered Treo smartphones.

The Linux version of the Palm operating system will replace the Garnet operating system, which was launched in 2006.
