BT seeks support for New Media 2

BT Vision, is demonstrating a new TV concept at the 2007 Broadband World Forum in Berlin.

The concept, called New Media 2 (NM2), allows users to give feedback on a drama series via the interactivity of an IPTV service.

A TV producer can then develop the storyline of the series, based on the information received.

A similar idea was used some years ago, when viewers were invited to phone in at the end of a terrestrial TV show, to vote for their preferred storyline.

New Media 2, however, takes this idea to a new level of sophistication. Rather than producers creating a single story-line based on viewer feedback, New Media 2′s back-end system is loaded with multiple storylines and options.

All storyline options will be available to viewers, making the viewing experience more personal.

BT has trialled the project with broadcasters and hopes to publicise and secure support for NM2 at the event in Berlin.

The company is considering a number of options to monetise the project, including pay-per-view, subscription-based and advertising models.
