AU Optronics HDTV gives 5,000:1 static contrast
by Janet Harris

AU Optronics has announced LCD TV panels with ‘bumpless’ pixel design, an integrated backlight, and enhanced colour resistance.
With a natural contrast ratio of 5,000:1 the display is the most vivid of any currently available technology which uses a mainstream cold-cathode fluorescent (CCFL) backlight.
The company believes it will be the best until LED-lit displays become mainstream.
Displays with dynamic contrast ratios should be capable of providing an even larger ratio by closing off parts of the backlight during dark scenes.
The technology will be demonstrated at the FPD International display expo on October 24th and should be integrated into production HDTVs in the near future.
AU Optronics technology is used by major TV manufacturers such as ViewSonic.
