Belgium based Belgacom has chosen Alcatel-Lucent as it’s supplier for it’s fibre-to-the-node VDSL2 network.
The deal will allow Belgacom to provide triple-play services, this includes multiple IPTV channels simultaneously on a multiple of TV sets and High definition TV in Belgium.
The VDSL rollout is expected to take place in Spring 2008.
The roll-out is part of a scheme by Belgacom to have fibre optics to street level on a national scale. After initial test phases Belgacom has reached final testing phases of the IT integration needed to fully realise the project.
The project when completed will cover more than 14,000 nodes.
Under the deal Alcatel-Lucent will supply it’s 7302 ISAM for the central office and 7330 ISAM FTTN with the 7356 Remote Expansion module.
Alcatel-Lucent will also provide it’s IP aggregation network.
