Soccer helps build BT Vision's customer base

BT Group Plc attributes growth in uptake of its BT Vision IPTV service to its coverage of English and Scottish soccer.

BT Vision, a hybrid service which provides standard TV channels over-the-air and on-demand content over broadband, gained 20,000 customers from its launch at the end of 2006 to the end of June 2007.

However, since the launch of BT Vision Sport in August, subscriber numbers have soared to 70,000, with total orders for the service reaching 100,000.

BT Vision Sport provides both live and recorded English and Scottish Premier League soccer matches. It also covers PGA golf.

The company expands demand for its IPTV service to be increased further by the launch of a BT Vision self-install option. It is also working on the introduction of interactive services.
