Internet telephony company, Truphone, has partnered with wireless internet service provider, Surf and Sip, adding 260 hotspots to the expanding number of locations where Truphone can be used to make mobile calls over Wi-Fi and the Internet.

Surf and Sip’s hotspots are located within Caffe Nero coffee houses. The company is planning to introduce further locations in the future.

Truphone users can use a Surf and Sip Wi-Fi hotspot without needing to register. They just run the Truphone Wizard once to log on and can then begin making calls, which are charged at 3p per minute more than Truphone’s standard rate.

Truphone is available for several handsets, including the Nokia E-series and some of the N-series phones.

The service, which is still in beta, provides free and low-cost calls for customers by routing calls via Wi-Fi and the Internet. It is available simply by texting the word ‘TRU’ to 07624 000000, or via Truphone’s web site.
