One million subscribers for Setanta
by David Allen
The sports and news channel Setanta has passed the million subscriber mark, this is quite an achievement in such a short period of time.
However the figure is actually a lot higher than that as there are some two million homes that receive the sports channel through other providers such as Virgin Media and UPC Ireland. But not to take it away from Setanta they have added over 200,000 subscribers in the past year alone, which is great going.
And the yet they are still falling short of their breakeven point, they would need to add another half a million subscribers for that, and at the current rate it will take them two and half years. But they do have the deal that they signed with the premier league to show 46 live matches, which is bound to bring in more interest.

They have added 800,000 in the last year. Don’t know where you got the 200,000 from, unless you are confusing the number of subs they had at this time last year. They are on track to hit the 1.5m pretty soon; much sooner than 2.5 years. If you hold shares in BSkyB, I’d think about selling.
