Channel 4 has entered into a partnership with IPTV platform, Brightcove, to incorporate video content across all of its online properties.
Channel 4 will initially launch video content on its TV clips site. This will feature clips from current TV programmes, a selection of clips from earlier Channel 4 programmes, and previews of forthcoming programmes.
The Brightcove Internet TV platform will allow Channel 4 to distribute online video clips. The broadcaster hopes this will tempt Internet users to watch full-length programmes via Channels 4’s linear transmissions, its 4oD on demand site or by purchasing a DVD.
The partnership also gives Channel 4 access to viral sharing features, including video link sharing, “email to a friend,” and embeddable video which can be used by bloggers and viewers on their websites or social networking sites such as Facebook.
Through the Brightcove IPTV platform, Channel 4 will be able to incorporate ad-supported video content within any online property. This will allow advertisers to reach new audiences and will provide additional revenue for Channel 4.
Channel 4 is planning to launch further broadband video channels with the Brightcove Internet TV platform later this year.
