Ofcom plans auction

by David Allen

The regulator Ofcom is publishing their plans to sell off parts or pieces of the UK spectrum with satellite radio and mobile TV at the forefront of what this could be used for. This is known as the L band and covers 1452 MHz – 1492 MHz.

This auction of the L band will be held online and should start around the spring of 2008, details of the auction are really known like, how long the auction will last, costs involved etc.

The only thing that is known is that the regulator states that there will be no restrictions on what the spectrum can be used for, they can do exactly what they want with it. This sell off is all part the digital expansion as it grows in the UK.
