The International Imaging Industry Association Camera Phone Image Quality (CPIQ) Initiative is entering the second phase of its campaign to develop repeatable, robust, test methods for evaluating the metrics associated with image quality.
The consortium, which aims to improve the image quality of camera phones, includes major companies such as Texas Instruments, Nokia Corporation, Philips Lumileds Lighting Company, Sony Ericsson, ST Microelectronics, Micron Technology, Motorola, Freescale Semiconductor, DxO labs, Eastman Kodak, AMD, Foveon and OmniVision Technologies.
In the second phase of the project, the consortium will develop test methods which improve image quality performance, together with a rating system designed to be easily understood by consumers. The system will convey information about image quality from vendors to consumers.
The group will also promote the adoption of the standard measurement techniques and specifications.
Its objective is to produce a complete set of standardised image quality testing metrics and methodologies, which will facilitate the development of a consumer-oriented image quality rating system.
