The DSL Forum has announced the approval of its Technical Report, TR-135 Data Model for a TR-069 Enabled set-top box (STB) and the amendment of Technical Report TR-069 which is concerned with enhancing the remote management capabilities of IPTV devices.
The new IPTV specifications are a key element of BroadbandSuite Release 3.0, which will support triple-play augmented via VDSL2, GPON and bonded DSL over a QoS-enabled Ethernet architecture.
Release 3.0 will also provide support for multicast, allowing IPTV streaming and integrated remote management of Set Top Box (STB) and attached storage devices.
The full release is scheduled for completion in late 2008.
TR-135 provides a data model for describing STB capabilities such as PVR, IGMP and quality of service. It also facilitates video service performance monitoring.
The main functions of TR-135 are the configuration of STB parameters for trouble management and collection of statistics for Quality of Service (QoS)/Quality of Experience (QoE) monitoring.
The specification allows the monitoring to be carried out remotely, with significant cost and time savings. Operators will be able to monitor STB usage and create product offerings tailored to a customer’s needs.
