French firm wins broadband contract

by David Allen

The French defence and engineering group Thales has been chosen to build and also manage a new super fast broadband network that will deliver this service to over 600,000 homes in south Yorkshire.

This new high speed network will be capable of delivering speeds of up to 50 megabits per second (MBPS), which is said to be around six times faster than the standard broadband that is available at the moment.

Around fifty per cent of the UK are on a broadband service, but the maximum speed is around eight mbps, but just across the channel the French internet users can expect up to 100 mbps when they have finished testing the system.
