CES 2008
by Grant Draper
CES 2008, as usual, had no shortage of technology and gadget news to be released for 2008, although there was just as much interest in the news developing outside of the CES conference halls.
The most spectacular, of course, Warner brother’s decision to exclusively support the Sony backed blue-ray HD format, rather than the previous format, Toshiba’s HD DVD.
Following the news, both Samsung and Microsoft implied on emphasising Blu-ray, with Microsoft hinting of a possible add on drive for its Xbox 360.
It was a big day for Microsoft, as it saw bills gates 12th and final keynote and the Microsoft top man, at a venue with a capacity of 6,000 people.
Televisions were a definite emphasis at the show, with Panasonic momentarily displaying a 150 inch plasma.
The new Samsung 31-inch OLED, was just as impressive, producing a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, and disappointing very few, if any, people at CES 2008.
Pioneer continues to showcase their talent with their extreme contrast concept TV. Due to offering true black, a contrast ratio isn’t valid.
As always, CES offered some weird, wonderful and wacky robots, in the form of the WowWee’s stand, the brain behind Homosapien robots, they completed their initial launch on several new toys at this years show.
