Viasat goes HD

Viasat owners, Modern times have today confirmed, that they will be launching a high definition service, using its Viasat broadcasting network, in Nordic countries.
The new package deal, will include two new, proprietary branded channels, Viasat Sport HD, and TV1000 HD.
Testing of the new system has already begun, however they will still be a full two years behind rival Canal Digital which has a well established HD platform.
Subscribers will have to pay an additional fee, for the new service, and will need a new HD control box. Two versions of the connecting hardware will be available. A standard Viasat HD, manufactured by Samsung, and Viasat Plus HD, produced by Pace.
The opening lineup of HD channels will be TV1000 HD, and National Geographic Channel HD available in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Norway. In addition, Viasat HD Sport, for Sweden, Denmark, and Norway.
Viasat’s Danish clients will be able to enjoy TV2 Sport HD. Swedish public broadcast company SVT, is also said, to be preparing to enter the HD market

SVT entered the HD market a couple of years ago.
