Apple TV; Take two

Apple TV; Take two

The Apple TV device is capable of allowing users to rent movies, using the internet, and download DVD and HD quality footage.

Launching what the CEO described as “Apple TV, Take two” Steve jobs commented “I think we’ve made some progress since our first try”.

The new product will be available in form of a software interface update, and will be available to existing Apple TV owners. This being said, there is no indication of the product hitting the UK just yet.

Benefits to users of the new device includes supports for pod casts and Dolby 5.1 surround sound, steaming content straight from a .mac account, stream live flickr accounts from people you don’t even know, and a reduced price tag of $229.

Content from all the major Hollywood studios, most of whom have signed up, will be available to be viewed via the new dynamic “movie rental experience” style user interface.

The move to launch the TV puts apple in direct competition with Microsoft’s video marketplace on the Xbox 360.
