Vyke wins Internet Telephony 'Product of the Year' award
by Jan Harris
Vyke Communications Plc’s Vyke Pro free mobile community messaging service has been named Internet Telephony ‘Product of the Year’ 2007, by Technology Marketing Corporation.
Vyke launched the Vyke Pro messaging service on June 19th, 2007. It allows mobile users across the world to send free or low cost text messages, as well as making low cost international calls.
To use Vyke Pro, the user first has to create an account on www.vyke.com. They can then download the application to their mobile phone. The service is compatible with most recent Java enabled handsets.
The service uses smart message routing technology to send free text messages to other Vyke Pro users anywhere in the world, or to send normal text messages to non Vyke Pro users for just 1p per message.
Vyke Pro also features the company’s “wake up” technology, which allows Vyke to remotely start a user’s Vyke Pro software, and deliver an incoming message to it, when receiving a message from another Vyke Pro user. This means that messages are never delayed.
Vyke Communications developed the software in response to the high cost of text messages. A typical rate of 12p for a 160 character text message equates to around £750 per MB of data.
