Online sales boom for stores
by David Allen

Online retailers have been reporting an excellent year in sales; in fact the figures speak for themselves as the total amount of sales done online reached £46.6 billion for 2007, which is over fifty per cent higher than the figures for 2006, where the total was £30.2 billion.
Despite all of the talk of success of the online trader the amount of business being done online still only equates to fifteen per cent of the total UK consumer spend every year, so there is still a long way to go before the high streets suffer.
The problem that faces the high street now, is the fact that over four million people shopped online on Christmas day, they spent an average of £21 each which totalled out at around £84 million, stores just cannot compete with and where shopping online comes into its own.
