Sky under pressure from competitors
by David Allen

For what would seem to a long time, Sky One has been the one that all others follow, but there have been some changes recently in the quality of programming available on Sky One. But the challenge to BSkyB has come from a very unlikely source.
For the first time Five US one the digital outlets from Channel Five came really close to catching and even overtaking Sky One in last weeks rating figures. With Sky getting 0.69% while Five US had a share of 0.64%, but Five US also have a plus one version of the channel and when these figures are added it would give Five US a share of 0.73%.
Where Sky’s problems lies is the fact that it is not available on Freeview and they do not have a plus one version. But Sky One has even more problems down the line because virtually all of the channels flagships shows, like 24, Prison Break and Lost have all been affected by the writers strike in Hollywood, so maybe there is worse news to come.
