Asustek Computer has announced their plan to grab 6% of the global notebook market, an objective set by chairman Jonney Shih during his yearly address to the company. If Asustek are to achieve this formidable internal goal, however, they will need to establish revenues of NT$340 billion this year alone, which would be a 50% increase on their 2007 revenues.
Despite both the graphics card and motherboard segments under-performing last year, Asustek continues to expect both OEM and branded shipments to see a growth increase of 10-15% this year. The company’s president, Jerry Shen, also asserted that Asustek’s prior goal to ship five million Eee PC units before years end remains well within it’s reach, as low-cost notebooks continue to account for 10% of the worldwide notebook market.
Chairman Shih has noted that the U.S. market will be vital to the company’s further development in 2008 – development that will see the OEM business focus on economic scale expansion, and the brand business target profit increase.
