An initial dip HD DVD sales, when Warner Bro’s announced dropping the format, has now been corrected in the states.
According to NPD Group data, the week ending January 19:
• 33% of all high definition set-top unit sales were HD DVD
• 63% of all high definition set-top unit sales were Blu-ray
• 4% of all high definition set-top unit sales were Dual Format.
As you can see from the figures, this is a huge correction after the previous weeks figures were released, Blu-ray were enjoying a 90% share of sales.
Of course the correction was helped along by the likes of Toshiba for instance, who slashed their HD DVD players from $200 to $100.
Toshiba better hope that helps, after a reported spends of $2.7million for an ad slot at the American Super bowl on Sunday!
