Many people believe that by paying the TV licence this gives them the right to receive decent TV picture but this is not so, and for 1.25 million people in East Anglia they appear to be faced with a choice that will cost them even more cash, get satellite or cable or risk losing the picture all together.
National Grid Wireless wanted to replace a 165 metre high mast at Tacolneston with a new 206 metre transmitter; this is part of the plans to bring in national digital television. But it has emerged that even by building this huge mast, it still cannot be guaranteed that every household in the region will be able to receive normal TV through an aerial.
This still means that for some areas, the only way that they can guarantee a decent picture is if they install a satellite dish or subscribe for cable, because even if they buy a set top box or digital TV they will not be able to receive anything.
