Broadband, you’ve never had it so good
by David Allen

On average it would that for most broadband users in the UK the network are not only getting faster, but more importantly it is getting cheaper too. There has been an average price drop by around thirty six per cent over the past four years.
When the first users managed to get broadband way back in 2004, it was on a mere 0.5 Mbps connection and they could have expected to pay around £27 per month for that service. But now the average speed is 8 Mbps and although a lot of internet connections are made up into a package, the average cost today is £17 per month, with Orange being the most expensive at £20 per month and Plusnet being the cheapest at £10 per month.
But it is speed that is most important to many users, Virgin is planning their 50 Mbps, and BT will be rolling out the 21CN, the all IP next generation network. This network will probably reach around ten million homes by the end of year, and promises to improve broadband services to a larger area.
