PC World offers free Laptop
by David Allen

This sort of marketing plan has been here before, with Carphone warehouse, but although the deal is essentially the same, there some subtle changes that have happened in the market sine the first free laptop deals started to appear.
How the PC World deal works is they want to push the 3 Networks mobile broadband service, anyone signing up to this service on a contract that is more than eighteen months long will be entitled to a £350 discount a selection of around ten Advent laptop computers of which the cheapest is around £329.99, effectively making this computer free.
But the catch is that the user will need to sign up for an eighteen month contract at £35 per month for the 3 Gb plan. However 3’s mobile broadband is now only £15 per month and so a new subscriber will be paying £20 per month more for eighteen months, which turns out to be £360! It just goes to show that free is not always free.
