BT Vision, which provides broadband video on demand via a Freeview digital terrestrial TV set-top box, has increased its subscriber base to 150,000 in just over a year.

The service, which was launched in late 2006, signed up 120,000 customers by the end of 2007, and has since added another 30,000.

According to BT, this is inline with its targets, although according to rivals, BT initially expected its customer base to reach hundreds of thousands by the end of its first year.

BT boosted customer numbers in the run-up to Christmas by bundling the BT Vision set-top box free to new broadband customers.

BT recently secured a content deal with Paramount, giving access to over 150 new films. It entered into a similar deal with Disney in January, for major US television series including ‘Desperate Housewives’ and ‘Lost’.
