Scopus Launches New Products
by Rachael Grant

Broadcasters, content providers, and satellite operators have always been battling to offer cost-effective distribution of high quality content. With advanced compression and modulation techniques becoming a necessity rather than just a desirable service, as high definition video demand increases, this battle looms even larger.
The solution being offered by The Scopus Video Networks is a DSNG solution based on UE-9000 universal MPEG encoding and the IRD-2900 professional integrated receiving/decoding platforms. For point-to-point and point-to-multipoint satellite contribution and satellite news gathering from transportable uplink stations this provides a realistic option, with the DNSG supporting H.264 HD/SD alongside DVB-S2 techologies.
A side-by-side comparison of DVB-S and DVB-S2 transmissions, showing the latter saving up to 30% bandwith when using the same link parameters, will be shown by Scopus at Satellite 2008, Booth 354. There will also be a demo of their DVB-S2 Variable Coding and Modulation, which will allow stability of service in eratic transmission conditions. The Scopus UE-9000 and IRD-2900 will be on display for migration to advanced codecs, as will the UE-9318 MPEG encoder for DSNG applications with an integrated L-band modulator for DSNG. There will also be an appeareance from the IRD-2900 DVB-S/DVBS-2 pro integrated receiver and decoder.
