Universities Targeted In Phishing Scams

A few university and colleges within the United States had become the target of phishing emails and fraud since the middle of January. The emails being sent encourage the receiver to input their school username and password for confirmation. The emails resemble those sent by the school’s help desk. The email’s also inform the students to input sensitive information such as their date of birth or birth country.

At least a couple of thousand emails have been sent out to university and college students. The attacks do not discriminate on the size or type of university, and a few popular universities have been affected. These universities include Princeton University, University of Notre Dame, Columbia University, and Duke University.

Once the student has fallen for the scam, the email is then used to send scam information about fake lotteries.
