Google adds local option to news service<br />

Google News now features a ‘local’ option which allows users to search for stories about their own neighbourhood.

When using the advanced search feature in the Google News aggregation service, users can enter a city or postcode in the localisation box.

The service analyses every word in every story to find stories relevant to the location entered, rather than just looking at the source or byline as most news services do.

This should help users to find news about a specific location from all available sources, rather than just from local sites or newspapers. It is estimated that Google News tracks more than 6,200 online publications.
