2.5 GHz WiMax to be launched<br />

The first pace in the UK to get a WiMax network over 2.5 GHz will be Maidstone in Kent, the work is being done by the Mobile WiMax Acceleration Group (M-WAG). Initially the project will cover an area of only seven and half miles, which may not seem a great deal, but will include around 75,000 people and 4,500 businesses.

Once the project is completed then the area of Maidstone will become a showcase for demonstrating the benefits of how and what mobile WiMax can do for both business and the home, this will also show to potential providers what type of business they could be getting into to.

Although this is not the actual first WiMax network to go live in the UK, it is the most advanced and is expected to deliver speeds for uploading at 2 Mbps and for downloading the speeds are estimated to be around 10 Mbps.

Kent is fast becoming the hi tech centre of the UK, what with the first complete optic fibre network and now this WiMax network.
