Downloader’s may lose internet connection

There has been word about other countries considering the banning people who are caught persistently downloading files of music and films; France in particular springs to mind as they were one of the first countries to consider this as a way of combating illegal downloading.

But this type of punishment is coming to the UK, and it is something that all internet users should be very clear on as there are estimates that there are around six million people every year that are illegally downloading files that contain copyrighted materials. This may be music, films, TV programmes and even software, so there could be many people at risk of losing their internet connections.

The government is expecting the ISP’s to support them on this, but they have been trying to strike a deal with the industry, but they have failed reach any agreements. Which make a bit of a mockery of the whole situation?

The Internet Service Providers Association said, “ISPs are no more able to inspect and filter every single packet passing across their network than the Post Office is able to open every envelope,” the association said. “ISPs bear no liability for illegal file sharing as the content is not hosted on their servers,”
