When the big switchover was first announced there was also a plan to help some groups of people with the changes, this £600 million fund is designed to help the over 75’s, disabled people and blind people, but there are still some groups of people fall outside of these parameters and therefore are faced with a worrying prospect ahead of the switchover.

In order to include these groups which include, those under 75, those with sensory, mobility or dexterity impairments, people with learning difficulties and those who are socially isolated, Digital UK which is owned jointly by the main terrestrial TV channels, BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel Five, S4C and Teletext - and by the digital TV multiplex operators SDN and National Grid Wireless has created Digital Outreach.

They only have a £2.9 million budget, but will train volunteers and produce information for the people who will fall under their umbrella, they will also organise meetings at home or in public halls, and open switchover centres, it should help a lot and bring some people who are feeling left out into the digital family.
