The UK version of the Black Entertainment Television will be launched on the Sky next week; the channel is one of the leading channels of its kind in the states and will be the first of its kind to appear in the UK.

At the moment the content will predominantly be from the US with programmes such as student reality show College Hill, crime documentary American Gangster and music show 106 & Park. But there are plans for the UK channels to get their own UK style content in the future.

Michael Armstrong, BET’s international manager, said: “BET has been building a presence among our core target audience in the United Kingdom for more than two years.”

BET will be starting off on the 28th February on the free to view sites on Sky; this will be an exciting time for Sky with this niche channel coming at this time when they are deep in an advertising battle with Virgin Media.
