HD DVD loses Paramount support
by Janet Harris

Paramount, the only remaining major studio to support HD DVD, has confirmed its decision to adopt the rival Blu—ray format.
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, the company said that it was in the consumer’s best interest that the industry was now moving to a single HD format. It also said that it now plans to release its titles on Blu-ray.
The universal adoption of Blu-ray will allow standardisation on how extras and other disc content is put together. This should lead to more content and a wider range of content being produced.
Paramount initially supported both HD DVD and Blu-ray, but moved its allegiance solely to HD DVD in August 2007.
However, Blu-ray took a strong lead on HD DVD when format-neutral studio Warner Brothers decided to adopt Blu-ray last month.
