Ofcom renames channels
by David Allen

The UK government watchdog Ofcom, has been busy reclassifying the headings under which channels are being grouped, this is supposed to be making the whole system easier to navigate for the users who will be under doubt which services they are choosing.
These plans will affect around ten services, which will include the gambling channels which will be reclassified from editorial to tele-shopping, how this was ever classified as editorial is anyone’s guess. But the move will create more safeguards for consumers as the new classifications will allow the channels to be regulated as advertising rather than broadcasting as they are at the moment.
Because of this there will be more chance of the channels being stopped if they are caught using the wrong type of advertising and will therefore increase the protection that consumers can get. These plans bring the channels in with the Gambling Act 2005 with clear rules that everyone can abide by.
